Deloitte Employability Course at New College Telford a success

The course at New College has been endorsed by the professional services firm Deloitte as part of their national award-winning Employability Skills Initiative. Deloitte are backing the scheme at selected Colleges nationally to ensure that young people have the skills and qualities needed to have a successful career.

Beacon Radio Advert

Media, Music Production and Performing Arts rose to the challenge of producing their own radio advert for Beacon Radio to advertise the upcoming Open Evening on 24th June 2009.
Dan Hill, current first year, Music Technology and Media student, took the lead as producer. Dan was nominated for this role by Dave Longdon, Music Technology teacher, who helped inspire and organise the recording sessions. Dan created the sound track, developed the script, auditioned the Performing Arts students to find the perfect voices, recorded voice over takes and brought the advert together.

Dressed to impress

As you can see from the photos the boys spent the week as brides, drag queens, hairy fairies, characters from the Rocky Horror show and pirates and ninjas to raise funds from Cerebral Palsy Sports.
The final amount raised was £360 - big congratulations to Tom and his pirates!

Originally Thursday was supposed to be a quite day for me; I had a progress review to attend and then a Basketball game to finish off the day. However, when I arrived at college I was asked by Lynda Lloyd, Students Services Administrator, if I would like to join her and Debbie Watkins, Marketing Manager on a visit to Kerrang. Still in amazement that Lynda had remembered that I was interested in work experience in radio, from a discussion over half term, I hastily rearranged my tutor meeting.

Simon Webb, ex Blue member and Rick Yune, star of recently released film ‘The Fifth Commandment’ joined Beacon Radio, at their Wolverhampton studio for a questions and answers interview. Francesa Sperling-Aubrey, a second year Performing Arts student at New College Telford was asked to join them. A big Blue fan, Francesa eagerly awaited their arrival armed with a mountain of questions.
