New College Telford – Quebec Exchange
Categories: Press Releases Archive
A group of students from a Shropshire College will for the second time in two years, play host to a group of French speaking Canadian students this week after a former college student working in Quebec set up an exchange programme.
The 13 French speaking youngsters, all aged 18 or over, will be staying with students from New College in Wellington all of whom are studying A Level French or English. The inspiration for the exchange programme came from Stephen Sharpe, a former languages student at New College. Through Stephen, who taught with the British Council in Quebec, contact was made with Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, a Further Education College just outside Montreal, and the exchange programme was established.
During their stay, the Canadian students will visit the Black Country Museum, Stratford, Shrewsbury and Birmingham. Trips further afield will include visits to London and Edinburgh
The visit to Shropshire started with a day at New College where the French students enjoyed afternoon tea with the local mayor and host families.
The New College students will be visiting Canada on the return leg of the exchange in February.
