New College student solving extraordinary problems

Categories: Press Releases

Ashley Griffiths, Curriculum Manager for Maths at New College said: “Cameron has really come on – he’s working to a really high standard and heading for the very highest grades. He is one of the very best students I have ever taught.”

Cameron said: “Before I came to New College I had been studying A Level in a school Sixth Form and it just wasn’t working out for me. The first thing tutors said to me when I came in to New College was ‘What do you want to go on to do when you leave?’ and that really got me thinking.”

Cameron continued: “The Maths Challenge events are different. On the face of it, the sort of questions you get are totally out of the ordinary and seem almost impossible. So it feels good when you’ve managed to solve them by pulling everything you’ve learnt together.”

“I aim to go to University to study Games Programming and Website Design. Having good teachers who are pushing you and helping you get to grips with it all makes a huge difference. Solving interesting problems is a big part of programming and developing games, and careerwise I want to go on to develop algorithms and artificial intelligence inside games.”
