AS/A2 Applied Travel and Tourism (level 3)

This course is designed to enable you to:

  • Develop your knowledge and understanding of the travel & tourism industry
  • Develop your ICT and research skills through the production of coursework
  • Appreciate the positive and negative effects of the travel and tourism industry on individuals, the environment and the economy

The course suits those who enjoy travel and have an interest in the industry. You should have a lively and enquiring mind and be willing to explore new ideas. Assessment is mainly by coursework, so students applying for this course should enjoy doing substantial projects.

 

 

What’s involved?

Introducing Travel & Tourism

This unit will give you a complete overview of the travel and tourism industry leading up to a one and a half hour written exam in January.

 

Investigating Tourism Destinations

You will look at European and UK destinations, why tourists visit them, the trends in visitor numbers and assess the suitability of the attractions for a range of target markets. This unit is assessed by a written Portfolio.

Tourism Impacts & Developments

During this unit you will look at the impact of tourism on destinations, responsible tourism and sustainable tourism, leading up to a two hour exam in January.

 

Event Management in Travel and Tourism

In this unit you will work as part of a team to plan and carry out a real travel and tourism project. The project involves organising either a travel excursion or a tourism event. You will learn about business planning, working as a team and develop the skills to evaluate the project.

 

 

Entry Requirements:

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C, with a grade C or above preferred in English Language and Maths.
