Is it for me?

The course suits students wishing to undertake further studies in fashion and textile design, usually at art college or further and higher education colleges and universities. Assessment is predominantly coursework based with some practical examinations.

What's involved?

Textile Design

Throughout this unit you will be working in a number of different skill areas incorporating dying and bonding techniques, felt making, machine embroidery and other decorative multimedia effects.

Fashion

Learn how to create your own fashion illustrations and to design and make a garment or accessory. You will be required to submit backup work in the form of sketches, ideas and reference to the work of contemporary fashion designers to support your practical work.

Building Your Portfolio

You will undertake research, make connections with the work of contemporary designers and craftspeople, and plan and develop your ideas for a final outcome. At the end of this time you will undertake an unaided five hour timed test where you will produce your final piece.

Personal Investigation

Develop a personal investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme leading to a finished piece, or pieces. The practical elements should be linked with some aspect of contemporary or past practice of fashion and textile artists, designers or craftspeople.

Final Project

Within this unit you will produce a body of preparatory work leading up to the exam,  and this can take the form of sketchbooks, worksheets, maquettes, textile samples and toiles. At the end of this time you will undertake an unaided fifteen hour timed test where you will produce your final piece.
